• Caper Radio is a campus and community radio station based at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia that operates as a member of the National Campus Radio Association. Founded in 1993 under the name CAPR, Caper Radio operated under a closed-circuit setup within the Cape Breton University’s Student’s Union, which gained a dedicated local following from students and members of the arts community.

In November 2016, Caper Radio was granted a developmental license in broadcasting from the CRTC (Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission) and began airing as CJBU-FM within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. After more than twenty-five years on-air, in July of 2019 we have been approved for our campus radio license, which will further expand our broadcasting range so we will be able to reach the entirety of industrial Cape Breton.

  • Through these early volunteering efforts, Caper Radio held its first ever “Gobblefest” music festival in 1994, which is a three-day music event that is held every Thanksgiving weekend in the downtown Sydney area. Over the years, Caper Radio and Gobblefest have been the first stepping stones for many of our local performers and artists.
