Tanner Leudy
Hello again everybody! Happy Friday! This week has felt so long. It's been so cold and so much snow, so here's a little something to warm up your good ol’ hearts. This week we got to talk to Tanner Leudy!
“My first show is hard to pin down, because there's a few things I consider to be “stage firsts”. I was 3 or 4 the first time I went on stage and I held a ukulele while my dads band played. I definitely cried when my grandfather took me off the stage. My old man, Tony Leudy, is my first favorite guitarist so I wanted to do whatever he did. Then there was my time in a 2007 contest called Ultimate Band, which was put on by Sheldon Aucoin. I was pretty hooked from the first show. We would play two songs and that was it and i didnt want it to be just two songs. But that contest didn't allow for bands to come in fully formed; we were put into random groups.”
“My first real show with a real band in which I could be a part of choosing members was with a group called Tanglewood, possibly at the BEC auditorium, and also in 2007. I was lucky to know so many musicians just in New Waterford in which we could have multiple bands (Craig MacIsaac, Nick Abraham, Zach MacDonald, Jesse McGillivary, Jordan McPhee, Joey McCarthy, Brendon Williamson). A lot of Mc’s and Mac’s.
From the first time we met Tanner, it was clear how much he cared about local music. He has always looked like he just belonged on stage, lighting up a venue and always putting on an amazing show.
“All of these experiences were massively enjoyable and made me want to continue to play, but the thing that I feel very fortunate for was that we generally always did original music. We definitely did plenty of covers, but from a young age, we tried to write songs. Though all of those experiences, pre 2013, were separated from the Sydney music scene, which i didn't realize existed until i went to an all-ages show at the Polish Village in Whitney Pier to see Frigged [Dead Skanks at the time] and The Slow And The Courteous. I'll always remember that day because that is the day I met all my best friends, seemingly all at once. Nathan Hines (Keith Doom), James Rudderham, Mitch Hines, and Art Bouman were all the coolest seeming dudes to me and were just so open to envelope me into their circle of music making and friendship. Through the scene I've met so many more amazing people!”
“I've played in Keith Doom & The Wrecking Crew, The Camper Vans, whatever Riley Hill's band name was (it changed a few times) , Brothers Cup (lol), Tanglewood, and a million other unrealized/unnamed projects with friends. I'm currently playing with Conductor, Trash Brain, and Debbie's son; so be on the lookout for all the good stuff coming from those groups”
It was great talking to Tanner this week! He'll be playing Stoked For The Holidays with Conductor on December 23rd so make sure you catch that. We truly wish Tanner all the best in everything he does!!
